Tragic Shooting at Swiss Rave Leaves One Dead and Five Injured

A tragic incident unfolded at a rave in Switzerland, where a 22-year-old woman was killed and five others were injured following a shooting. The incident occurred at a techno rave held at a horse racing track in Aarau, a town located approximately 29 miles west of Zurich.

The deceased woman, identified as an Italian national, was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured, aged between 24 and 27, are currently receiving medical attention in hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to severe. The Italian Embassy in Bern and the Consulate in Zurich are actively monitoring the situation and providing support to the affected individuals.

Local authorities have launched a manhunt in the wake of the shooting, with police spokesperson Bernhard Graser confirming that there is no information regarding the perpetrator(s) or their motive. Graser added that the suspects are no longer believed to be in Aarau.

The shooting took place at approximately 02:30 local time (01:30 BST) on Sunday, following the conclusion of the event. A DJ who was scheduled to perform until the event's scheduled end at 02:00 reported the incident on social media, stating that it occurred immediately after his set. DJ Tekibo, another performer at the event, took to Instagram to express his shock and grief, stating that he had lost a friend in the incident.

Organizers of the event, Agency Events AG, expressed their shock and solidarity with the police. Olivier Grein, the firm's representative, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting the investigation.

An eyewitness, speaking to Blick, recounted the chaos that unfolded. He described hearing gunshots minutes after the music stopped, initially mistaking them for fireworks. He reported being instructed to hide by a man and a woman; tragically, the woman was shot.

The event was expected to attract up to 3,500 attendees. Police have requested that witnesses submit photographs and video from the scene to aid in the investigation.

Following the incident, authorities cordoned off an area around the race track, the town's swimming pool, and sports field, urging the public to stay away. A large police presence, including armed officers and those in riot gear, has been deployed in the area, with additional forces positioned up to 18 miles from the site as a precaution.

Images from Aarau early on Sunday morning depicted a heavy police presence, with an armoured vehicle blocking a road and armed officers patrolling the streets. The police emphasized that there is still a strong force at the crime scene and around the town to ensure a swift response to any new information.

The regional disaster response unit (KKE) and the Swiss Army helicopter were also deployed to the scene. Switzerland, known for having one of the highest rates of gun ownership in Europe, has experienced rare violent shootings, with tighter controls introduced in recent years.
